I've lived in 3 hoods- Compton, east side Buffalo, and in the BronxI've also lived in the slums of Brazil and the hood aint nuthin compared to a 3rd world slumEach hood is different, some are more dangerous than othersI suppose I'll make for you a listThe Hood 1The media over exaggerates the violence- heck sometimes they even lie2The cops see the gangs, they see the gangs do shyt but they turn the other way(except in Niagara Falls where they do really crack down) 3People think there's no such thing as a White hoodTry Lovejoy in the city of Buffalo, NY4There are rarely jobs and sadly in some hoods the liquor store is the biggest thing aroundThe jobs that come don't stay too long5The hood is predominately Black and Latino (some have higher rates of Arab and all hoods have a small % of White people)Depending on your area, some hoods have a high Native American pop50% of Native Americans live in urban areas- mostly in poor areas6Corrupt copsNot everyone in the hood hates copsI mean if I need them, I'll call (I never said snitch)However, I have seen cops (in America) deal drugs to 12 yr olds7The rent is low so all types of shady people come inFrom crack users to crack dealersForget about using the elevator in your project housing unless you like needles and pee8Most people in the hood are actually nice people9The most common drug here is ganja (weed) we can't afford anything more unless you turnin tricks for cokeMost of the hardcore drugs (coke) is sold in the burbs10People who deserve to be on welfare can't get on it and people who abuse the welfare system are on it (but sometimes ppl who need it do get it) 11Some people work hard and want out, other people make excuses for themselves 12Teachers tend to think the kids are all headed down the wrong path or they all come from dysfunctional homesI am a teacher, I can say thatNot all kids in the hood have unhappy homes, some have good homesAgain the hood is NOTHING compared to a 3rd world slum
