What exhaust sytem gives the best performance, saves gas, and makes my car sound louder ?
Honda Accord Exhaust System
If you want to save gas just stick with the cat-back. You'll still get more power if you do a little more but your gas mileage will start to decrease if you increase scavenging too much. With a V6 you would be safe with a 2.5 cat-back exhaust and a real aftermarket muffler (no fart cans or glass packs). If you want more power get a high flow catalytic converter. DO NOT remove your cat all together, it screws up your oxygen sensor, which in turn decreases power and mileage. With a high flow cat you will be at stock gas mileage with a 10hp increase give or take. I don't recommend more exhaust work beyond that if you don't have any sort of engine upgrades (intake, fuel, ignition, tune) because it won't do you any good. In fact you will end up losing power and gas mileage because your engine needs to compensate at that point. You won't see much of a gas mileage improvement anyways at this point, I'm just explaining the amount of work and the effects. Once you add an air intake (not cold, those decrease mileage because the engine needs to add more fuel to compensate for the much larger amount of air) you will see another slight increase in mileage. Then when you add an upgraded fuel system and tuner, you will have a lot more hp and potential mileage. If you're dumping more air/fuel into your engine upgrade your ignition system so it can burn it better. At this point you will be producing more exhaust safely, so you need to upgrade your exhaust further. Get aftermarket headers and larger diameter pipes for everything you didn't cover with the cat-back. With everything combined you can gain up to 30 whp but that's with proper tuning.
