What is the difference between a rectifier and a DC / DC converter?

DC / DC converters are complex. If it is high DC into a low DC, then it is relatively simple, (low power) with a regulator or resistance can be achieved, such as 7815 and so on. When the voltage difference is large, you can use SCR and so on.
In the spare UPS only need to charge the battery, do not need to load the power supply, so only the charger. In the double-conversion UPS, this device is both for the inverter power supply, but also to the battery charge, so called rectifier / charger.
Rectifier and DC / DC converter difference: rectifier is a rectifier device, simply that is the exchange (AC) into DC (DC) device. DC / DC conversion is a fixed DC voltage into a variable DC voltage, also known as DC chopping.
