What is the difference between repeaters and hubs?
Data exchange (Switch), also called switching hub, is a kind of work in the OSI layer second (data link layer, see "Wan" is defined based on the (MAC), network media access control address) identification, can complete the package packet forwarding function of network equipment. Through the re generation of information, and after internal processing, forwarded to the designated port, with the ability to automatically address and exchange. Do not know how to switch IP address, but it can "learn" the MAC address, and the address stored in the internal table, a temporary exchange path between the data frame originator and target receivers, the data frame directly to the destination address from the source address.
Data link layer, connect two LAN, to transmit the frame according to the MAC address, can be seen as a "low-level router" (routers in the network layer, such as the network address IP address forwarding).
The hub is in the physical layer of the 7 - tier model of OSI, essentially a repeater. The main function is to regenerate the received signal so as to enlarge the transmission distance of the network. Because hubs are just a signal amplifying and transferring device, it doesn't have switching function, but it is used frequently because of its cheap price and flexible networking. Hub used in star network wiring, if a workstation problem, will not affect the normal operation of the entire network.
Repeater (Repeater) weighing and sending device is one of the most simple, but also the most widely used interconnection equipment. Repeaters are only suitable for Ethernet and can link up two or more than two Ethernet links. The repeater amplifies and amplifies the data signals transmitted over the cable, and then retransmit them to other cable sections. For protocols above the link layer, several sections of cables interconnected by repeaters are not different from a single cable (except that the interrupt itself causes a certain time delay).
A repeater is a network interconnection device on the physical layer that is used to regenerate signals (i.e., amplify and shape the original signal).
