Darkness isn't the opposite of light, its the absence of light...what is the opposite of light?

It would still be darkness. Without light there is darkness, or if you want to be technical then look into the atronomy part of things and find out if the particles or anything at all changes when light travels into a spot, then if its gone when light is there then its the opposite. if you mean by light color -- then dark if you mean light as in visible electromagnetic radiation -- then there is no opposite (that's just like asking what is the opposite of a sound wave)
