Question:

what is the proper name for the hoods on old cars that lift up on each side?

what is the proper name for the hoods on old cars that lift up on each side?

Answer:

I've referred to them as clam-shell hoods simply for descriptive purposes. I think the brittish refer to that system as the bonnet of the car. Nigel, open the bonnet and check the oil, we've a long way to go.
sending post cards from a plane crash(wish u were here) it one of my fave songs from them!!!!!!!!!!^_^
Bonnet is just a british word for the hood of a car and the boot is the british word for the trunk of the car. The english still use those terms today and they don't refer to any specific type of hood. The hoods that open like you describe are still called hoods. You might refer to it as a bi-fold hood or something like that, but it's still a hood.
I know on the class 7+8 vechicle's theyare called butterfly hoods. I assume it is the same on a car
