I live in NYC and just purchased an apartment this summerI just discovered that this apartment has no insulation at all on the outside wallLooking for advise on what kind of insulation is bestI only have 2quot; between the exterior brick wall and drywall.- fiberglass batts : remove drywall add fiberglass batts and drywall- form insulation : remove drywall add form insulation and add drywall- any other options? In my research I found that foam is better and has a better R value and last longerI am not sure what quot;longerquot; meansI need it to last for 10yrs maximum as I don't plan to live here foreverIs the price difference that big between both the above methods of insulation (they say form insultaion is 2 times more?)Thanks a lot for your help
You would have to find out which of the materials has the smallest thermal expansion coefficient.
foam would be the easiestyou would only have to cut a small hole at the top and a small hole in the bottom of the wall between each stud bay, and spray in the foamthen just patch and paintt the holesfiberglass batts you would have to remove most of the drywall and replacethe spray foam is more expensive for the insulation itself but in your case if you add in the cost new drywall then the foam will actually be cheaper.
