A cord is 128 cubic feet. To do the math you need to convert your numbers to the same unit of measurement. So - 40 inches becomes 3.3 (actually 3.3333... but close enough for this) feet and the formula becomes 3.3 X 4 X 4 or 52.8 cubic feet. I assume that you can see that 52.8 is a bit less than half of 128.(64).
