What kind of surface preparation should I do and what kind of paint to paint over old floor tile? The tile are really stuck firm to the floor. Thanks,
Can't . Must remove tile. Might need a heat gun or blowtorch. Need more information on type of tile!
I paint and tile, every day of my life, though never together. I have no doubt you'll get answers that offer suggestions about roughing up, grinding, priming, etc, even perhaps using garage floor strength paints. This is similar to a CAN I question, and with no disrespect my answer is always, certainly, but my additional thought is always, But you may be dissatisfied. BTW you can find hundreds of Q's in yahoo search here, related to yours. First of all, consider that tile is essentially glass, especially glazed, fired tile. If you've never run a fingernail over a piece of glass with paint on it, try it once. Consider then the outside chance that you experience a miracle. That miracle will still be on a Floor, which endures more abuse than any other surface in a home. Assume that you achieve some modest success, then someone drags a chair across the floor, and OOOPS happens. I'd advise two things, neither easy, or cheap. Remove the old, and determine a same or different floor type, OR install concrete backer board, or Ply, over the existing floor, and determine any alternatives. Steven Wolf
