Question:

What propellant for a muzzel loader?

I haven't used muzzel loader in years. I seen they have predetermined amounts in some object you drop down the barrel and put your bullet in and that's it besides cap and tamping it. What is the names of that

Answer:

triple 7 fff. clean burning compresses verywell.
Pyrodex?
The synthetic substitutes for black powder are Pyrodex, Triple 777, Black Mag, and Black horn ; there are a few others but these are the more common. Most are in 50 grain pellets so if your using a 50 caliber smoke pole and it calls for 150 grains of powder then you just slide 3 pellets in and your patch and lead. I've seen some of these now in 25 grain pellets as well so you can adjust from a max load, what I've found is by using 100 grains of 777 with a 240 grain 44 caliber sabot in my 50 caliber rifle I get great accuracy out to 125 yards and I can pre-make the powder and lead in a small tube. With this I have been able to get off three rounds in a minute with practice. Not something I would even attempt with loose fill black powder.
