Question:

what's a good fiber supplement that doesn't cause bloating?

according to my doctor i have irritable bowel syndrome (mostly constipation)laxatives hardly work anymore except for high doses of stimulant kinds that feel harsh on my bodyi've also tried metamucil and it worked but it made me feel extremely bloatedwhat would be a good supplement that would produce good results and not interfere with my life?

Answer:

Pretty muchThat's why I prefer steel frames
It is trueLet me explainWhen aluminum frames are assembled, they are usually welded in what is called a soft stateThis means just what it saysit is soft and virtually unusable, but the areas around the weld become very hardNext comes annealing where the frame is treated to make the entire thing- welds and all- soft againThen comes heat treating where the frame is immersed in a vat of melted salt solution for a certain period of time, then aged in a special environmentOne an aluminum frame changes shape (is dented) the outside edge of the dent becomes work hardenedit is harder than the remainder of the frameBending it back will cause the edge to become even harder and result in failure if placed under stress such as what is experienced when riding.
Metamucil makes you feel bloated because it absorbs several times its volume in waterOne way around this would be to split the Metamucil up into much smaller servers across the daySo instead of taking two tablespoons in the morning and evening, take one in the morning, one at lunch, one in the afternoon and one in the eveningAlso, atmeal is actually a major source of soluble fiber, not insolubleI'm surprised that it's causing you problems - usually people find oat fibers much easier to digest than the insoluble (roughage) found in wheat grainsThat said, you might try adding some more apples into your dietFruit pectin and the soluble fiber in apples seems to be much easier for people to digest and is pretty effective at keeping your regular without causing a lot of bulkingYou might also consider adding two tablespoons of flaxseed meal into your diet twice a dayFlaxseed is high in fiber, but it also contains substances with mild laxative propertiesAnd then there are the heart- and brain-healthy Omega 3sFlaxseed meal can be added into oatmeal in the morning or even sprinkled into yogurtBuy the meal, not the seeds, since it's more easily digested and you get the benefits of the fatsBest of luck!
