What are the advantages and disadvantages from a 1st floor apartment to a 2nd floor apartment?
major disadvantage stairs. advantage nobody above you.
heat rises so utility (heating) is lower in the winter. You say you need exorcise well heck those stairs are good for that!! Good view. Dont get noise from downstairs. downstairs you hear people goin up the stairs. Utilities arent as cheap. More breakins. (who wants to climb a flight of stairs to carry down a tv??)
1st floor apartments normally have a larger sitting area outside than the 2nd floor apartments.
Consider the noises you and your neighbors make. The sound of loud music travels upward, making it an advantage to live on the bottom floor either to avoid as much of it as you can, or the top floor to keep complaints from neighbors about you to a minimum. Also, listening to footsteps from upstairs neighbors can be annoying. If it is important to you, upstairs apartments sometimes have vaulted ceilings, downstairs apartments don't. If you wish to avoid stairs, live downstairs.
First floor apartment is cooler in the summer and your utility bills will be less. Also you don't have to carry everything up a flight of stair. Draw backs are noise from people walking,running,dancing,etc.. up stairs. Also the pluming is connected and if you get a backup it all comes out in your apartment. Second floor apartment has a better view, unless it's the parking lot. It's warmer in the winter as heat raises. I only had to turn by heater on in the mornings to knock the chill out of the air. It's also hotter in the summer. Not as much noise from the down stairs neighbors. The problem is carrying everything and I mean everything up a flight of stairs. Also when you move out it all has to be carried back down.
