What solution can you think of to diminish the heat island effects?
My brother has snakebites. He used hoops while they were healing. After they healed, he tried using studs, but they kept irritating the inside of his lip he kept losing the ball that screws onto it. So I'd say start out with hoops until everything has healed.

Don't start a fire, and if you have a space heater, keep it as far away from the stairs as possible. I wouldn't worry because the probability of fires is incredibly low. However, there is a reason that where you are isn't a legal bedroom. you could buy a fire blanket and fire extinguisher if you are afraid you wouldn't be able to get out (just throw it over youself if there's an emergency to let you run through it better).
