a SRI: short ram intake, which the filter is mounted somewhere in the engine compartment. a CAI: cold air intake, which the filter is located outside the engine compartment, like in the fender or the front of the radiator (gets colder air then the sri).

There are: The Short Ram Intake: Which is safer to have but is a little worse on performance. Your car might actually be slower and lose horse power under the heat. The Cold Air Intake: Which reaches all the way down to somewhere like 1/3 of the way down your wheel. So it's pretty close to the ground. It's good and gives a better performance gain than the short ram. The bad part about it is that you have to be careful when driving in the rain. If you hit a large puddle and all the water gets to the Cold Air Intake, it could suck up the water into your engine. In that case, you will get what is called engine lock where your car wouldn't be able to move. I currently use the CAI, and I love it. Never had a problem with it yet. All my friends use the CAI as a matter of fact. Preferred brand: Injen, and after that is KN.
COLD AIR INTAKE/ SHORT RAM INTAKE/ SUCKTION HKS STYLE INTAKES/ FORCED INDUCTION AKA TURBO OR SUPERCHARGER. Every car has an air intake some aftermarket ones flow better then others.
