Question:

What type of contrator do I use to fill in a concrete pool?

I'm looking to fill in a concrete pool and don't know where to start looking. I don't want to hire a middle man contractor that will get someone else to do the job and then charge me 25% more then what they paid to do the job.

Answer:

call an excavating company...they have the equipment and are sometimes looking for places to put their excess fill...
I would get the largest concrete bit and drill 200 holes in the bottom of the pool.. Also, maybe wack out a few holes with a sledge hammer.. Then put advert on CL saying fill wanted.. People may even pay you a little if you take lousy rubble grade fill...
Part of it depends on what you want to fill it in with. If it's just dirt, check the Yellow Pages under 'topsoil'. If you want to take out the concrete, things starting getting expensive. Edit: I should have added that in many places, local law requires you to remove the concrete before filling in. This can get expensive. I would also check with those who do backhoe and/or bobcat work. Sometimes they're listed in the yellow pages as 'excavators'. Even if they can't do the job for you, they'll probably know someone who can. A good, reliable pool company, who either installs or maintains swimming pools, should be able to offer advice as well. Good luck.
Pools come go in my area . People have hired pool specialists excavators, general contractors, landscapers.( they all hang out in the same bars) Seems the same guy does all the bashing filling in for everyone. The excavator charges a day rate for machinery operator. Other costs are clean fill , trucking , grading. Electrical, maybe some water supply disconnects. Permits, Inspections? The rest depends on what you do with the space , lawn, patio, deck, etc. Since the bulk of the work is by the excavator , might start there . Using an independent excavation contractor ( same guy that works for everyone) should cut out the extra handling costs. The pool bottom sides have to be broken up the hole filled in. No way around that. He may be able to provide topsoil grade the area also. Restoring the area is your option. Best regards
