Question:

what will happen if dc is applied to ac motor?

what will happen if dc is applied to ac motor?

Answer:

Lots of pretty sparks and smoke. Poof, no more AC motor.
short circuit
If you can reach the terminals on the other end, it'd be the same voltage as a 9V battery. However, city electrical systems are capable of generating a lot more current than 9V batteries, so slapping a wire across both terminals is still going to cause a sparkstorm.
I'm no Engineer but the following will happen. It will not convert,. will it damage it, it all depends on the voltage you are using. It you go over 16volts of AC or DC power you are definetly going to damage the PC board inside the unit. If you want to install dc to a ac motor definetly get a power converter, this way it will save you alot more money instead of having to change out the motors and the boards.
It depends on the motor, if you have an AC universal motor, it can work with both currents, AC or DC, if not you can burn that motor.
