One thing I read, is that the loss of backpressure by having a missing exhaust system is bad and can damage the engine. However, I also read that the loss of backpressure actually increases your engines HP by 20 to 50 and will just be really noisy with no overall engine complications. Also, by missing the exhaust system I mean missing the catalytic converter and onward. Obviously I should just get it fixed but that isn‘t really an option right now. And obviously the exhaust system is there to reduce noise and to be cleaner for the environment but like I said. Anyway, do you think it will damage the engine? Additional info: it‘s a 99‘ 4 cylinder engine.
Any back pressure is bad. The exhaust system quiets the engine and converts harmful gasses to something less problematic for the environment. Without the catalytic converter, the engine produces high concentrations of H2SO4, or Sulfuric Acid. The catalytic converter reduces those emissions to something less toxic and better for the environment.
what turns the light on is the brake pad wear detector. If you know anything about cars you can look at the pad thickness with the tire on. It will save you allot of money in the long run to have them replaced, and not gamble on messing up disc and rotors etc. Have them checked the wear detector may not be set correctly and can be adjusted. good luck
You can drive the car the distance to the nearest Mercedes dealer or independent Mercedes repair shop. It could mean your ABS has failed or it could mean that you are near total brake failure or anything in between. Here is where you mind out why it is not a good idea to buy a European made car.
Do you really want to push your luck? I don't know about you but I value a fully functioning braking system in my vehicles.
