Question:

whats a good lift range for a floor jack?

i want to change my car‘s oil on my own and i want a workable amount of space between my face and my car. whats a good brand for floor jack + jack stand?

Answer:

Nothing, It is the riders responsibility to allow sufficient spacing between himself and the vehicle in front.
I don't know about the law in USA but I remember a guy here in the UK who had to swerve to avoid being hit by a car; he crashed his bike because of the a**hole in the car but he could not sue or make a claim because no physical contact had taken place. Had he allowed the car to knock him off his bike he would have been able to claim compensation.
The rider will collect from his insurance and his carrier will go after the driver. If the rider is uninsured or under insured they could sue ( and probably win ) the driver with the citation being legal proof of negligence. BTW , laying the bike down to avoid a collision is not a violation of the vehicle code.
watch for the front wheel width if they are cheap and narrow they will flip over side way's and you could get hurt bad or at least the car,if you are going to use it a lot spend what ever you think your life's worth be safe my friend
