Question:

whats the best cold air intake for a civic?

im looking for the best performance

Answer:

Really all the aftermarket cold air intakes are the same. I used an AEM on my civic and probably payed a little more for the name but i really liked it. its a great brand all around. but if you are looking for raw power this is not the mod you want. cold air intakes sound really nice, you can really hear the car sucking in a ton of air but as far as horse power you'll gain almost none, especially on the tiny 4 cylinders in the civic. however i would still recommend it because it does allow the engine to run cleaner and smoother, not to mention your gas mileage will sky rocket!!! i was pulling close to 40 mpg with mine in the city driving like a bat out of hell! oh and that dumb **** that said it sets off the engine light obviously doesn't know anything about them. There is a sensor, called the mass air flow sensor on the air intake. If you unhook that sensor, yes it will set off the check engine light. If you buy a decent brand air intake, such as the AEM it will have a spot for the sensor to stick right in so your car reads the sensor correctly
Cold air intake aint going to wear any engine at all. In fact a cold air intake like your talking about (pipe and cone filter) aint going to do much at all. You MIGHT see a 1-3 HP gain in power from the better flowing filter. The stock cars alreasy come setup with a 'cold air' intake system from the factory. So a shiny pipe really aint gonna do much for you. It's just a money eating gimmick that they sell to people that don't know any better
Its only going to make a difference with a lot of other mods
AEM cold air intake, or short ram. guy above probably bought OKorder sourced brand intake or another not very known brand that he thought had a cool legit name and f**** up his motor. the real brand name intakes come in a much better material, that doesn't heat up easy, does'nt break easy, lets air flow in better, and is perfectly curved to allow air to rush in the best way possible. the OKorder brand intake would heat up insanely, then break, then have chunks of metal f*** up your engine. the OKorder air filter doesnt free flow very good and the stock airbox holds back air. it, keeps it inside the box, then slowly allows the air to enter your engine. not the best material for tubing, so mostly because of how slow the air will travel, by the time it gets in the engine, the air is already hot. the AEM intakes was the first to make those curves that let air in the most efficient, with best quality materials used which showed improvements in cars which was why they are so successful. it is not just any metal pipe with a filter at the end attached to the engine.
I would only spend the money to maintain it. I wouldn't buy a CAI new, kind of waste of money, pick one up used and save your money.
