Question:

Whats the best tape to use to stop a oil leak?

Stripped the plug hole on the oil pan and now a new plug has a snug fit, but has a drip around the oil plugIts located on the side of the oil panIm thinking just taping over the oil pan plug completelyShould it work and any advice would be appreciate itThank you

Answer:

Update if you are really determined to not take a he plug outit may work to put a thick layer of gasket maker on a 4-5 square piece of aluminum foil and clean off drain plug and area and smear a light coat of gasket maker all around the area with finger tip and avoid spreading the oil that is seeping out to creat like a primered surface and quickly place the square piece of aluminum foil with the gasket maker on it over the plugI don't think any tape over it will work, you may just need a new oil plug washer gasket or rubber washer, if that does not seem likely key it may work either way you will need to take the plug out and save the oil in a pan to put back in when you are doneclean the threads real good with paper towels and rubbing alcohol or brake clean or carb cleaner or something and when the threads are clean and dry put some Permatex Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker 3.35 ozon the threads and screw the plug back in and let that dry before using Thread tape may work but the gasket maker will.
