Hi Everyone. Thought maybe someone could help me. My boss came back with a streambed/soil sample from near the top of a mountain. Had it tested with a spectrometer. It came back as 98% Fe. Next test was a magnet. I would say it picked up about 50%+ of the sample, with quite a few large beads of iron. Any suggestions of what to do next as far as testing and sampling?
Magnetite often accompanies gold in alluvial stream sediments. My suggestion is that you locate several suitable locations; digging down to the base of stream-bed (or as far down as you can go) on the inner part of stream bends. Then, you take these samples wash the samples in a prospecting pan. Larger yields of magnetite will probably be accompanied by larger gold values because they are both heavy minerals which will remain when lighter minerals have been winnowed away
