Question:

Whats wrong with my exhaust system?

I was driving home from work and my car started making an unbearable loud noise. I can feel the vibrations and it comes from the mid-section of the car. I have a 1993 honda civic lx 1.5l 5 spd. My entire exhaust system has failed. whats wrong with it?P.S. I‘m not crazy about honda civics. So please dont bash me for owning one.

Answer:

Don't Bash on you honda civic man Its one of the most reliable vehicles on the road. Your Car is 18 years old. after time there are things that need to be replaced or repaired There are a lot of people out there that would be really pleased that there car is still running after 18 years. take your car to a muffler shop and get them to fix your exhaust pipe. its no big deal.
since your exhaust system is well secured to the car, it is unlikely the whole thing failed all at the same time. Mufflers and catalytic converters have a tendency to rust from the inside out from water condensing inside the exhaust system. Some cars may have whats called a resonator after the cat and muffler too. So if your muffler rusted out, or possibly even disconnected somehow from the main pipe, it would be a very loud vehicle , particularly in the morning when vehicle is cold. This is not a death sentence by any means, it does take some positive action on your part, you need to use your head and get the car to a muffler shop and get it fixed. This would be much more productive than crying over the internet my entire exhaust has failed woe is me. Get out go to a shop and get the dang thing fixed, Im sure none of your neighbors are happy with the noise either.
There's definitely been damage to your exhaust system but to diagnose it you'll need to get under your car and take a look. Could be a cracked / broken exhaust manifold, exhaust pipe, or muffler.
