Unless you are a plant, you have nothing to fear from crane flies.
The ones that look as if they have a stinger are the females. The stinger is just a device for laying eggs ( an ovipositor).
Crane flies look like mosquitoes from Hell, but they are absolutely harmless. They do not have stingers, they can not attack a human. Relax!
