I have a Honda 250 and I want to learn to ride it without my husbands help. I think the right side lever that looks like a handbrake is the clutch but where are the brakes then? Any other basics that would get me on track would also be helpful. This bike has a kick-start.
The most expensive would be best. If you are going to waste money, go first class.
The right side IS the brake, the clutch is the LEFT. Wear lots of protective garb to learn by the CRASH COURSE method .HELMET boots and gloves plus jacket.
The clutch lever is the one on the left. The front brake is the lever on the right. The rear brake is a foot pedal. Please do not start trying to ride without some help. With as little as you know about motorcycles I'd feed like a murderer telling you that it's OK to get on and try to ride. Whatever reason you have for not wanting your husband to help, I don't know what that it- pride? mistrust? Sign up for safety lessons through your local Dept of Motor Vehicles if you've just got to have a marriage filled with dishonesty.
I suggest you call a local motorcycle shop and find a dirt bike course. There are usually some in any area. To answer your question, clutch left hand lever, front brake right hand lever, rear brake right foot, shifting left foot (one down from neutral and at least 4 up sometime 5). To kick start the bike your going to have to find TDC then kick it. To find TDC kick it slow until it gets real easy, that's the top, now you have to romp on it. Again I suggest a class.
