lime powder is used in baking cookies, cakes etc.I can't seem to find it anywhere.Does anyone know where?
Lime is acidic and water is nuetral. So once they mix they produce an acidic solution but dilute.
Lime water has a number of different meanings - for instance to an alcohol cocktail maker lime water could mean a mixture of lime juice ( from the citrus fruit) and water , This would be an acidic solution with pH less than 7.00 But in chemistry the term lime water has specific meaning - such as in the sentence : If CO2 gas is bubbled through lime water a precipitate occurs and the lime water turns milky. In this chemical meani8ng of lime water the solution is made by dissolving calcium hydroxide in water. This is only sparingly soluble , but a clear lime water solution can be obtained by allowing the undissolved Ca(OH)2 to settle out This solution is basic with a high pH because the dissolved Ca(OH)2 is a strong base and a high concentration of OH- ions is produced. Is lime H2O an acid or base: Take your pick depending on what you mean.
