The area that needs liming is about one acre. I have heard that to raise the ph of this amount of land I would need up to one ton of lime. Where can I get this much pelletized lime and is it expensive?
Both lime and lemon juice are acidic and will lower the ph of soil, how much is dependent on how much you use. You need to get some ph strips or a meter to test the soil. Different plants have different preferences for ph. Some like more acidic soil, some like neutral or base. If you want a fast growing plant, beans would be a good choice.
Try a hardware store or Garden wholesaler or garden center. They may sell it to you cheaper for that volume. Pelletized lime is usually Doloprill. It breaks down in a few months where dolomite lime takes much longerLime is limestone that is crused into a powder. Dolomite is cheaper but it just takes much longer to work.
farmers co-op-- they can give you a price i would believe
