In tryna put transmission fluid in my 2004 grand prix Gt .where does it go ?
That model probably has a Torqueflite transmission. In that era there is no dipstick and the fluid is just changed every 100K miles (same way fluid is changed in a manual transmission - drain and fill plugs) unless there is a visible leak. You may well be over the 100K mark. If so, it is a practical DIY job. Look for the fill plug on the side of the transmission. it has a 3/8 square indentation for a socket driver. There is a drain plug just like it on the bottom. Always remove the fill plug first to avoid the frustration of draining the transmission and not being able to get the fill plug loose! Drain the fluid into a pan and replace the drain plug, then fill the transmission to the bottom of the fill hole with fluid. Put in the fill plug, recycle the old oil wherever you take engine oil for recycling, and life is good for another 100K miles. Edit - thebax has it right - not the sealed Torqueflite like the one in my daughter's 2004 Classic. See the first source for details. He is also right that if it is low on fluid it has to be serviced, and as the source points out it is not a simple DIY job.
Don't mess with your transmission fluid. If it's low you have a leak. On a 2004 vehicle you probably should have the pan dropped and filter changed along with new ATF. The fluid level gets checked at normal operating temperature with the motor running. It's not easy to read correctly, you need to take at least 3 readings. Dexron VI goes in GM trannies.
Search for the dip stick it's shorter and probably a bit hard to find on some cars just look about at the top of the tranny and you'll see it pull it out and use a tube to insert in the small hole and add fluid through the tube
