You can also make a compost container. if the pallets don't have gaps between the planks they can be used as a stage. if they do have gaps you can take planks from one pallet and fill the gaps in another, and make a stage. Also a dog kennel, a garden fence, a tunnel, a sculpture. Stakes to drive through vampires' hearts. Firewood. A raft. A garden shed. A bonfire. Crosses for poor people who can't afford a tombstone. Wooden swords. Toothpicks, skewers, wooden mallets. You can make all this stuff with bought pallets too though, they don't have to be free.

I have gathered and used wood pallets many times. I have best luck going to the county dump. Many companies will dispose of them instead of recycling. Also, go to any Industrial areas where you're located. Most businesses that use shipping services usually wind up with tons of crates and they're happy to unload them free. Many times grocery stores, and others stores that have deliveries of bulk items will have them laying around behind their buildings and stores. I found many that way also. Just ask the manager before you help yourself; again, they're usually happy to get rid of them.
