which is better for saving gas, an exhaust system or a muffler ?? which kind of muffler or exhaust system ?

Answer:

Well you are asking about saving gas so I'm going to say stick with your stock exhaust system. But if you just put an aftermarket Muffler on there you shouldn't notice that much of a difference in gas mileage or power. Make sure you keep your catalytic converter(s) if your concerned about your gas mileage.
Omigosh i can't believe it takes a girl to come in here and explain this. A muffler is not going to do anything except slightly alter the sound of your exhaust. I don't really know anything about fuel efficiency because I've always been more concerned with gaining power vs. saving gas. However, I would think that the same rules apply. you will have to change your exhaust and your intake systems. If you put a more restrictive exhaust system on your car, with the original intake, you will have the same amount of air coming in with less room for it to escape, hence limiting your power. Going the other way (larger exhaust) is just as bad. To swap out both the intake and exhaust for quality systems, you are looking at easily spending $700+. And I highly doubt that any of that work will save you that much money in gas, so I just say leave it alone.
The exhaust system could get u probably save u a tiny bit of gas not much probably none a muffler tip just adds style and sound
