Question:

which property of mineral quartz makes it useful for making concrete?

Answer:

It looks like it has black in it to me-or maybe a dark Grey which would match. Have you seen an actual sample? If not it's hard to judge. I would really want a sample before I committed. One thing that comes to me though is you have picked out a dark color, have black appliances and white cabinets. That sounds a little to contrasting to me. I think if you go with this you are going to want to paint you cabinets a soft light color using one of the light colors in the counter top. Good Luck! I am sure it will turn out great!
It does actually have black in it, so it works nicely. I'm not sure why you chose black appliances with white cabinetry, however. I do like the fact that the Silestone you chose is a medium tone; this helps bridge the gap between your white cabinets and black appliances - will tone down the contrast somewhat.
I don't really think that would go with black appliances. Try ordering a sample, then you can hold it up against them to see how well it coordinates. The samples on the site that you gave are as low as $3.50, so you can also get one like Kalahari or another shade that does have black and compare. Seeing them in you home against what you already have will help you to confirm your first choice or decide to go in another direction prior to making a large investment. Good luck on your remodel!
I think it will look great - but be prepared - it will be a big contrast, which you can offset by painting your kitchen a darker tone picked up from the Silestone. If you don't want such a huge contrast, you need to pick out a darker countertop, something either very chocolate or black.
I think you are getting too many different colors going on. If you are getting such an interesting counter top you want people to look at that not at your black appliances that will probably end up popping out instead.
