You saw fishing boats! In that area of the world, they fish at night.

Perhaps thats Mr Crab sending SOS signal for someone to help him get rid of the green crocodile under the Penang Bridge!
Depends on the flight path and time into the flight..... Of course, right after take off, you would be expected to see the lights of the city and the busy harbour.....and if indeed the flight is over the sea, you would see lights of ships on the South China Seas...... However, the flight path may take you over the Philippines, Burma Thailand, etc, and you would be expected to see lights from the cities under the flight path..... and if you are constantly seeing the lights, then they may be reflections of aviation navigation lights of the plane...
