Question:

Who do I thank? Fiber or weight lifting?

I had extremely bad liver enzyme count and very bad cholesteral levelIn-between blood tests, I lifted weights( no cardio) and every night I took a fiber supplement6 months later I took another blood test and my results came back normal and the doctor was shocked The doctor even shook my hand and said good job.Should I thank the fiber supplement or me weight lifting every day?

Answer:

When you finish knitting it, rinse it in warm water and if it has been wagged around the world while being knit, use a bit of soapRinse well and rinse in your hair conditioner (quite amazing what this stuff does)Lay the scarf out on a flat surface, spread it to where it is flat and evenPIN in place with silk pinsIf it doesn't stay flat like you wish, steam press on a setting that doesn't melt the fiberSilk setting works on mostLeave it in place til the steam dries completelyIn my estimation most things curl while being either knit or crochetedDon't worry too much until after you wash itthen block as necessary.
The garter stitch border should keep it from curling but maybe you don't have enough stitches in the borderYes, block the final productMost times it worksWet the scarf in warm water and lay your it on a flat surface on a towel, smooth it out with your handsDon't stretch it and if it doesn't want to lay flatput another towel over it and lay something heavy along the length of it-books laid end to end should workOnce it's dry it should be fine but you may have to repeat the process when you wash it
I have read many posts, comments and solutions regarding the problem with scarves that roll vertically from side to sideAfter many knitting hours over the years using beautiful patterns and yarns and then being confronted and disappointed with the rolling sides result : the solution is very simple1) Blocking is only a temporary solutionThe scarf will eventually roll inwards againThe basic stitch pattern defines that result based on the dispersion of knit and purl stitches on the front of the scarf2) Find a pattern that utilizes knit and purl stitches more-or-less equally balanced on both sidesIt's that simpleYou will still have a visual front and back, and what a great coup to have a scarf that lays flat, always! Hope this helps.
