Who remembers when you had to access the gas tank of a car by lifting up the license plate? Tell about it.?

Answer:

NO idea what causing it, but pull the fuse for them to stop
My 71 220 MBZ had the gas cap under the plate. Nice old car.
There were not many cars that did that, but I have encountered one. On a flight to the west coast some years ago, I stopped at the Torrington WY airport for the night; the airport supplied a free car for the use of itinerant pilots. Of course, manners require that you put some gas in it, and I had to hunt for a while before I figured out that the gas fill was behind the license plate.
I have a 1970 Chevy nova and you have to do that I wish all cars have that because it don't make a different what side the gas pump is on. it also give the car a cleaner look by being no door on the side of you body. I was told it was a safety issue because if someone wrecks in the back of your car the tank can blow up.
