why are big construction machines (tractors, dozers, excavators, etc) painted yellow? An overwhelming majority are yellow. Why not red, or some other color?
Yellow is the universal sign color for caution, also it more visible at night than any other color.
I generally agree with visibility, but I believe a shade of yellow is also a trademark for Caterpillar? I have seen a number of on imported (in the US) excavators (trackhoes) that were not yellow.
