In Batman Begins, what was Dr. Crane/ Scarecrow (Cillian Murphy) after? What did he get in return with working with them and why did he work with them? He doesn't strike me as the kind to work with groups, he seems like a guy who rather work alone.

Only Crane did. Falcone was merely the top dog crime boss at the time. Ra#x27;s al Ghul is a self proclaimed savior of the world, a person who thinks he can cleanse the world of crime, but actually an extremist who just wants to watch civilizations reach their pinnacle then see them destroyed. Here#x27;s a quote from Batman Begins: Gotham#x27;s time has come. Like Constantinople or Rome before it the city has become a breeding ground for suffering and injustice. It is beyond saving and must be allowed to die. This is the most important function of the League of Shadows. It is one we#x27;ve performed for centuries. Gotham... must be destroyed. Get the idea? Crane helped create a fear toxin in Batman Begins but Batman foiled it. Bane came to Gotham to wreak havoc and become Gotham#x27;s Reckoning but Batman foiled him and Ra#x27;s daughter, Talia#x27;s plans. Both plans were to spread fear and both were foiled. One last thing about Ra#x27;s: He#x27;s the immortal Devil of the D.C. Universe.
Dr. Johnathan Crane is a brilliant scientist who specializes in the study of fear. In return for his work Dr. Crane received funds and more important the blue flowers needed to produce the fear gas drug.
Crane was a criminal and a bit of a nut. Just like any super villain. He had a fetish for fear. Ra's used him because Crane could make best use of the blue flower drug, and they need Falconie to set things up. Ra's would have gotten rid of both after he was done.
