Question:

why do some bar magnets attract and some dont?

The bar magnet is dropped into a bag of coins. Some coins are attracted to the magnet but some are not. Why?

Answer:

most coins are made of non-magnetic materials like copper, zinc, silver, gold. Only magnetic metals are iron, nickel and cobalt. .
All materials are not magnetic or do not get attracted to magnets. Only some magnetic substances like iron, nickel, cobalt and some of their alloys get attracted to magnets. In the bag of coins you mentioned the coins that got attracted to the magnet are made of iron or have some iron content iin them. The other coins are deviod of iron and did not get attracted to it.
