Question:

Why do we say bed bugs?

Why when we were kids or when we were adults, did we say Don't let the bed bugs bite! Before they went to sleep??

Answer:

It was an expression and it rhymed with night. In olden times, bed bugs were prevalent with poor laundry methods and up to 5 people in a bed.
bed bugs are bugs that live in beds.
bed bugs are tiny parasites that make colonies in your bed. they are still a terrible health risk in low income areas. anywhoos, the saying is, good night, sleep tight. don't let the bed bugs bite. the 'sleep tight' part referred to the beds, which used to be like a straw filled mattress supported on a network of ropes. when the ropes were loose the mattress would sag and be uncomfortable, so every once in a while they had to be tightened up.
Bed bugs were probably more prevalent back then. Making a great comeback today! Not sure why a parent would tell their child to watch out for bugs though. Why not say watch the monster under the bed!
Because bed bugs were common years ago...and they are making a come back Good nite Sleep tight Holler when the bed bugs bite
