Hi,1 of my smoke detectors (Kidde 1276) keeps beeping every 30 seconds or so. I took it out and changed the battery because from my knowledge it has a low battery when it beeps Brand new battery but it STILL beeps. What is the problem? What can I do to shut this thing up? I just took it out and put it in my closet with no battery it doesnt beep now, but I want to put it back where it belongs. Thank you guys.
You need to replace the jamb on the side that's broken. The easiest way is to take the door off (just pull the hinge pins) and get it out of the way. Remove the trim, and the broken jamb. If it was a pre-hung door, you may run into trouble trying to get the jamb out, as most pre-hung doors have a rabbet cut in the jambs that the top plate is set into. Just install a new jamb, mortise it for the lockset, reinstall the trim. caulk and paint. Good as new!
DO NOT USE COTTON SWABS!!!! Yes, they work well for cleaning reel-to-reel and cassette heads, but can destroy VCR heads. Tiny particles on the heads can be damaged with cotton swabs. You need very soft foam swabs for VCR heads. I know Radio Shack used to sell these, but not sure if they still carry them (I'm sure you can find some online). And personally, I use regular isopropyl alcohol, not sure if your nail polish remover is the same thing. You can use cotton swabs for cleaning the paths (just don't use it on the heads). Clean the entire path. This can get dirty and is the prime reason for eating up tapes.
The rotor (blades) of a modern wind turbine are made partly of aluminum and a composite like epoxy with glass or carbon fiber. But the top of the tower is also equipped with a lightning rod that leads the bolt directly to the ground. In addition, the actual generator is equipped with a lightning arrester. The thing is: when the lightning bolt forms, it has many branches and it is only when one of them gets so hot that air turns into plasma that it becomes the main and only bolt. The rod being electrically connected to the ground will then become the main bolt and prevent damages to the blades.
The blade would either get charred, damaged, or broken off.
