Question:

why does my new front motorcycle brakes squeak until i put the brakes on, then it stops?

I just had new brakes put on and a service done on the front brakes, its a Harley

Answer:

Pads can leave dust as they are used which sometimes squeals as the brakes are applied, on older style brakes you used to have to put copper grease on the reverse of the pads which helped remove the noise. However, if the brakes are constantly binding, there could be a problem with the fitting/servicing, with the wheel off the ground spin it to see if it rotates smoothly.
The calipers are sticking . I'd take it back to the dealer and have them clean the pistons and lube the slide pins. Any contact by the pads to the rotor should cause the piston to return into the housing . If the piston does not return the pads will squeak on the rotor.
the brakes are disc type this system uses what is known as Knock Back the bearings and all the components are slightly narrower than the overall rim width. the bearings are torqued and this allows a slight wobble in the brake disc which pushes the pads away from the caliper. only 1 thing causes squeaking on this system, the pads are lightly rubbing the rotor. causes; most likely the tech over tightened the bearings. 2nd didn't install the caliper properly (clean lube set the pads) 3 rotor is messed up (slight warp, heat caused swelling) and caliper piston sticking just because harley worked on don't mean its right. Take it back and make them fix it
