first answer pretty much covers itAlso-there are duvet covers that are basically just big empty bags that you can stuff a comforter in and use on the bed Im a huge fan of duvet covers because you can change the look of your bed set with one without having to buy an expensive new comforter.
yes kerri is right a duvet is just like a pillow case for your comforternicer to wash and keep clean and do not fill them with anything else unless you are a seamstress or know what you are doing or you will waste alot of money and end up with a big lumpy piece of c-p so if you have a duvet you now know what to do with it.
A quilt is a user-friendly white pillow case full of the two feathers, down, or some poly stuffingA quilt cover is purely an ornamental, holding pillow case for itA comforter is a exceedingly, tufted thick blanket for the mattressthis is, what i'd call, a comforterit is all you like.
A comforter is one piece, with the decorative cover sewn around the filling and it can't be removedA duvet is much the same, but has one part with the filling and with a plain cover, then you put that inside a large bag, a duvet cover, which is made from the decorative fabricThe idea is that when the duvet cover needs cleaning, you take it off the duvet and wash the cover onlySaves on washing machine space, and many comforters don't fit too well in a machine anywayIn Europe, they save even more on the washing by using only a bottom sheet because the duvet cover functions as a top sheet doesIn North America we usually use the top sheet as well.
Where it says to move yarn to front of work, it means you pull the yarn toward you, under the right needle tipThen you slip those 5 stitches with the yarn held in front like that, then after they are slipped, move it back to the back side again passing under the right needle tipThis is essential in order to get the butterfly image on the front (stockinette) side of the fabricAs you are coming back on row 10, a wrong side row, those strands will indeed be on the opposite side of the fabric from youBut it's okayJust peer over the top of your knitting to the back side and scoop those strands toward you and onto the right needle tipThey don't have to be pulled to the side of the fabric where you are working, just up to the needlesCarefully insert the left needle tip into the same five strands that are already resting on the right needle tip, so that both needles are passing each other going under those five strandsYarn over, and draw the yarn over loop through the five strands with the right needle, then let them all drop off the left needleAnd that's it.
