Question:

WHY IS MY CAT PISSING ON MY RUG?

MY CAT HAS BEEN PISSING ON MY RUG. NO WHERE ELSE IN THE HOUSE JUST THERE. BUT I SEEN HIM ALSO GOING TO THE LITTER BOX. HE IS FIXED.

Answer:

He wants to get back at you for being a bad owner. Next time, he better piss on you.
YOUR CAT PROBABLY HAS A SLIGHT URINARY TRACT INFECTION Go to the health food store and get some cranberry pills and give him 2 today and 2 tomorrow and make sure to change his food to one good for urinary tract health. if this doesn't help... put a few drops of lemon juice in his water. then if that doesn't help take him to a VET
It dosen't matter if he's been fixed or not. Keep the litter box CLEAN. Clean the litter box at least once a week with a disinfectant. Clean the turds and clumps of urine every other day, more often if need be. Steam clean the rug. A clean litter box = a happy cat.
If it's a new rug, it is probably because of the backing on it. Most rugs have a non-skid backing sprayed onto it, and that smells like urine to dogs and cats, especially the bathroom type rugs. If it's not got a backing on it, he may have had one accident there, then decided to keep using it because you didn't get all the smell out. Use an enzyme cleaner on it, it gets rid of all the organic substances and kills the odor. Any pet supplies store carries several kinds.
Dear Dawn, You don't say whether or not this is a throw rug or wall to wall carpeting. First of all your cat may a urinary tract infection, very common in male cats in which case he needs to see a vet. If this is not the problem then he may be upset about something or someone. In any case if it's a throw rug, you may try to wash it, but I have found that replacing it works alot better. In the case of wall to wall carpeting you can try one on the commercial pet stain and odor products. Personally I have used Nature's Secret and Urine Gone, which I can no longer find, and follow the directions. Hope this help you.
