In winter my hot water is significantly diminished when I turn on the heat. When the AC/Heat is completely off, the hot water gets very hot. When I turn the AC on, the water is hot but now the AC is not cooling sufficiently. When I turn the hot water temp down on the water heater, the AC gets cooler. The AC/Heat unit is old but I've been told it's clean and running well by technicians. The problems started when I got a new water heater last year. What's up?!
what type of furnace do you have? I've seen a unit that used a water heater to warm water, then when the house needed heating, it would pump heated water through the furnace through a high-efficient heat exchanger. the water heater also supplied heated water for showers and other appliances in the home. in the winter, there was a high demand for heated water, the unit wasn't able to maintain. in the summer, the water heater only served the domestic needs, the furnace used the air conditioner. You might want to check water pump from the boiler to the heat exchanger in your furnace. It may be running constantly, and the AC cannot make up for the heated water.
