Question:

Why would I need to install an aftermarket car alarm?

When i lock the doors on my car, it always flashes on the dashboard, anti-theft. I am just wondering what an aftermarket alarm system would do different from the factory alarm system.

Answer:

Anything you want it to do, including but not limited to poisonous gas, or a text message to tell you where your car has been taken to.
Me personally, I love the rain because it helps me ralax when I listen to the raindrops hit the window.
Anti-Theft might just mean your car has a starter kill. Something that keeps people from hotwiring your car. Most cars after 95 had this and usually the Anti-Theft or Theft System light is referring to that. An alarm will actually blare a siren if your door is opened, your car is started, or with many models if your car is struck by an impact. Aftermarket alarms are very effective in my experience.
aftermarket alarms usually have better range for remotes and have better/more sensors. some stock alarms only sound if the door is opened not by the key( slim jimed, window smashed and open from inside. aftermarket alarms sound if there is a shock/vibration to the car.
Normally i love it but it's been raining here for about a month now and I would love to see some sun for a change!!
