I believe magic is rooted in nature and psychology. I don't know if it's energy based; skeptics of course say there is no proof, while practitioners have always equated it with some kind of energy. But in my experience, even if it's all placebo effect and self fulfilled prophecy, it's effective enough for me. It's not like fiction-- it works subtly, doesn't break the laws of phsyics. It doesn't work as well on other people against their will as it does on yourself or others who you're working with. There are no illusions or tricks involved. You learn it by studying it. Mental discipline through meditation is also necessary.
