I need to use one for a class project, but i'm afraid it'll set off my dorm room fire alarm cause they're supposedly pretty sensitive. Will it?

I'll Pray
If its new and u tested it and it said there was monoxide in the house, it was probaly just doing its job, I'm sure your ok. If you are worried, call your fire department, they will tell you and if need be, they will come to your house and test it.
You need to have the fire department come and check your home. You can become very sick and die from carbon monoxide poisoning. My family and I had a furnace break down a few winters ago and it was leaking carbon monoxide into our home, we had a alarm from our detector and the fire department said that it saved our lives. The carbon monoxide can slowly poison you and you can pass out and never wake up. Please call the fire department and have them check your home for your own health and safety.
Awhile back i needed to replace a battery in my hard wired detector and my Boyfriend had a problem getting it off the ceiling That was his FIRST mistake. Replacing the backup battery NEVER requires taking the wired detector off the wall/ceiling.
If the fire alarm ( the detector with the button) is old 5-10 years or dirty with some deposit it could give you a false reading. You could buy a co2 detector to check for co2 level .
