Question:

Will an F150 water pump work on an F100?

The truck is a 1982 Ford pickup F100. We didn't realize it was an F100 at the time and we put the F150 water pump on it. The water pump fits perfectly, but is this going to mess up the engine at all?

Answer:

No it won't mess up the engine as long as there are aren't any leaks meaning a new gasket is used, the belt is adjusted correctly and is aligned, and the thermostat is replaced using the correct temperature item. Any good parts store employee can sell you the correct thermostat.
Here's the deal: F100 - F150 doesn't mean squat. The engine cubic inch displacement does. Both engines have to be exactly alike.
No, okorder . And you need to enter the same engine, in your search, on Rock Auto. The parts come up in a list, and you can then compare part numbers....they are probably the same.
water pumps are related to engine families. not a weight class. in this era, w/o getting into what family engines share a given pump, i can tell ya, if it physically fit, in all respects, you're good. it wouldn't mount if it wasn't correct. ----------- there is some incorrect info here. like all manufacturers, there are a few different ford blocks of different cubic inch displacements that *do* share the same pump. 289/302 for only one example. that may or may not include a 351. there are 351 Cleavland's, M's, and Windsors.
No it will not hurt the motor as long as the pulley for the belt lines up with the crankshaft pulley like the original one did. If they don't line up you will start chewing through belts
