Question:

will an STi transmission fit a WRX?

I have a Subaru Wrx with an STI engine and i was wondering if a STi transmission will fit the wry body.also is the wry transmission tuff enough to handle the extra 40+ HP?

Answer:

Cold air intake means that it is taking air directly in from outside rather than getting air that has passed through the radiator (which would then be hot air). Cold air is more dense and therefore increases the oxygen delivery to your engine and improves power and combustion. Your car has one. Follow the tubing backwards from your air filter and your will see where it comes in.
AIR INTAKE TUBES Improving the air path between the air filter and the motor is the next big area of improvement. We offer two options for many of our air intake applications. Part numbers starting with 57 or 63 (except Gen 1 and 57i Series) incorporate molded High Density Polyethylene tubes that are black in color. Part numbers starting in 69 or 77 have aluminum tubes and are polished, powder coated or anodized. Our molded Polyethylene systems offer us the most flexibility in air intake design and the best possible horsepower numbers. The aluminum intake systems offer power with a more stylish look. See the KN's application search for specific horsepower numbers. 50 STATE STREET LEGAL Many KN Intake Systems are street legal in all 50 states and include a California Air Resource Board (CARB) Executive Order (EO) number that ensures the kit has been tested to comply with emissions standards. EO numbers apply to the kit as well as the year, make and model it is being installed on. Systems with no EO number are street legal in most states but may not be used on emissions controlled vehicles in the state of California. Use KN's search by part to see which cold air intakes are CARB exempt for which vehicles.
they do add some performance, some. Not a ton but they do. Cold air intake, just means that instead of taking in air from right there by the engine, its placed closer to the fender, or wherever you get air from outside the hood. Nothing really cold about it, should be called external air intake or some $hit like that.

40hp won't break the transmission if you can drive. 150hp won't break it if you can drive. But the 5 speed is a ticking time bomb. Sure, you can swap the STi 6 speed in, but it isn't as easy as it sounds. To swap the STi transmission you will also end up swapping: Driveshaft Rear differential from STi (to match the gearing) Rear axles (different spline count than the base WRX) rear spindles (rear STi hubs are a different size, so the STi axles won't fit the WRX spindle) at this point you might as well put the STi brembo brakes on it, since the WRX brakes I DON'T THINK will fit the STi spindles, that I could be wrong though. wiring will need to be changed for the DCCD possibly different front axles. shifter linkage You're looking at $10,000 for that conversion, give or take. Just get an STi. Oh, and the whole WRX is quicker than the STi is BS. It's only quicker to 60 because it has 1 less gear change, because it will do over 60mph in 2nd gear, whereas the STi will need 3rd gear, since it has a 6 speed with closer ratios. But the STi is more than just a couple numbers.
