Question:

Will aroma beads damage polyester?

I‘m making a stuffed animal and I‘m wanting to give it a nice, lasting scent. I‘m wondering if aroma beads will do the trick but I‘m finding conflicting answers online. Some sites say that aroma beads are perfect for stuffed animals and others say that aroma beads will damage cloth. The material I‘m using is short-length, soft, fur-like material that is often used in stuffed animal making. The material is two-sided (one side longer than the other in furriness) and I THINK it‘s polyester, since it‘s much like a 100% polyester blanket that I have. Will aroma beads damage this material if I use them?

Answer:

If you are using 100% polyester they shouldn't unless the beads are wax and exposed to heat. If you are giving it as a gift make certain to tell the recipient that it cannot be washed and dried via machine. I've made little sachets that hang in closets and over bathroom door handles using them and only the ones that were subjected to the heat of the shower began to damage the fabric when I used the wax ones. I've had no problems using the aroma beads that are made with arrow root.
