Consider why you wear them. Would you be less embarrassed to be seen out with dark glasses, a cane, and seeing eye dog because you thought safety goggles weren't kewl? Wear the gogglesthey are function, not fashion. I'd rather look stupid for a little while than injure my eyes. You're doing a job where safety equipment is a good idea. Wearing the goggles means you are smart, and care about your eyes. Not wearing them means you put vanity above your eye health.
At 17 only she can be blamed for her behaviour. Hopefully this is a wake up call to her
