I have a 1994 Jeep grand cherokee laredo with the 4.0l straight 6. My transmission doesnt have 2nd gear. (thats how I bought it) and a friend of mine has a 1994 jeep grand cherokee limited with the 5.2l V8. Would the transmission from his jeep limited bolt up in my jeep laredo?
There are five transmissions that come in the 93-98 Grand Cherokee, so it could be one of these, the AW4, 30RH, 32RH, 42RE, or the 44RE. You might be able to swap these out, but there are things that will need addressed, like the transmission length, the wiring for the shift position sensor, the wiring for the TCM and the solenoids, and there is more. The best thing to do is to run the VIN at the dealership on both Jeeps, this will tell you what each one has.
Trust me, it is one of the worst things you can do to your car; lift a transmission from another car. Even if they are the same model, they don't have the same transmission, so you will mess up your car completly. That is what happens when you modify a car by lifting stuff from a car that is different in any way.
